Sri Sri 108 Swami Prajna Das Kathia Baba – the Founder of Swami Janaki Das Vidyapith - was born on the 30th of July 1959 to a financially disadvantaged middle-class family in the village of Barar near Memari in Purba Bardhaman. His parents were widely regarded as pious and honest. Right from His early days, He was a child with a difference.
After completing primary education in Kailashpur Primary School, He went to Gopalpur Maktakeshi Vidyalay for secondary education. It was here, in class VIII, that He met Sri Sri 108 Swami Janaki Das Kathia Babaji Maharaj – an encounter that was to become the turning point of His life. Soon, He renounced the comfort and security of home and family to devote himself entirely to the Lotus Feet of his Gurudev in search of ‘The Ultimate Truth’.
He passed Madhyamik in 1976 and Higher Secondary in 1st division, and was admitted to Raj College in Bardhaman to study Philosophy (Hons). He emerged with flying colors – scoring First Rank in the First-Class Division in His Philosophy Master’s Degree – and subsequently earning Gold Medal from the University of Bardhaman as a token of academic excellence. He went onto complete His Ph.D from the same university under Honorable Professor Dr. Amarnath Bhattacharya.
Sri Sri 108 Swami Prajna Das Kathia Baba wanted to enlighten people and eradicate the curse of illiteracy, ignorance and superstition from society. He was well aware of the key role that education would have to play in His ‘dream project’. Swami Janaki Das Vidyapith – an English medium school affiliated to CISCE New Delhi – is therefore much more than an institution that grooms and mentors students in scholastic and vocational excellence. It is living proof that nothing can stop an idea that carries the blessings of the Almighty, and is propelled by single-minded zeal.
Sri Sri 108 Swami Prajna Das Kathia Baba left his earthly abode on 28th February 2014. His corporal body may have departed, but we know He is continuously watching over us - guiding us at every step in fulfilling his grand vision and dream.
